Chey and Sophie // Surprise Piha Engagement, New Zealand Wedding Photographer

I witness some pretty wonderful magic moments in this job... But this just takes the cake!

I received a message from Chey about a month or so ago, her idea was simple, find an epic spot, propose to her partner in crime Sophie, get a photographer to sneakily capture it all. The only thing was, they'd be travelling from Australia and had never been to Piha before. Challenge accepted.

Chey knew she wanted it to be atop lions rock. I warned her of the climb, the unstable cliff faces and fallen away pathways, the steep vertical climb near a 30 feat drop... I sent video footage of myself climbing it all to prepare her for the challenge that would await if she decided to go ahead... She messaged back "its perfect". And off I went on a mission to find the perfect hiding spot (which I found in some nearby flax bushes)

The game was set, I marked out an "x" with some sticks to perfectly mark out where Chey was to stand when she dropped the knee. Now all we had to do was wait... Oh and Chey had to spend the next hour an a half convincing and coaching Sophie to the top because... oh yeah, she has a fear of heights and there was "no way I'm climbing up there"

With proper convincing from Chey, they made it! And as I creeped around in the flax bushes my heart raced with anticipation watching Cheys face and she waited to catch her breath, take a few selfies, set Sophie in place, hug her hard, breath deeply, and forget everything she had planned to say! She gave me the signal, and I popped up out of the bushes almost simultaneously as Chey dropped her knee! Sophie, still shook from the climb she reluctantly embarked on, was now completely speechless. Her face lit up with pure joy and love... And yes! She said Yes!

It was such a beautiful moment to be apart of. And Im so happy for these two as they embark on their next journey together! Hopefully this one requires less hikes up unstable cliffs ;P Although, it was Totally worth it!

Kimberley and Matt // Piha Wedding Photographer

Im not sure what I did to deserve these guys; Not only are they absolute BABES but they are legit some of the sweetest humans in ze world! (i swear I say this about all my couples, but Its true and I stand by it) ;)

Me and Kim have reached actual bffl status just by Instagram messaging the heck outta each other non-stop for the last year. Dog memes and all I've shared so many lols with this gal before we even met and so By the time they met me outside my driveway for their engagement shoot I felt like I had known them for years. Kim's sense of humour and mine are honest to heck on the exact same level, so we were already in stiches by the time we walked down to the rocks and Matt the trouper saved us both on multiple occasions from tripping over our own feet (Clumsy Girl Life am-i-right Kim?!). Its such a special thing to witness but you can tell by the way Matt simply looks at Kim that this boy is absolutely smitten with his wifey to be and I honestly feel like both of them have hit the absolute Jackpot finding someone who ADORES them so much.

I cannot wait to explore Queenstown Mountains with them REALLY. FREAK'N. SOON. And watch these guys start their journey together in one of NZ's most EPIC locations. Lets do this team!

Simone and Alex: Piha Engagement Photographer

Late one afternoon Simone and Alex ventured out to meet me in my new hometown of Piha. I have just recently taken up residence in the beautiful, quiet and moody af coastal town and have been dying to bring some couples out to show them all the little spots I have found in my wanderings over the past 2 months. The skies where angry and heavy with rain and the sand flattened by the roaring winds. We sat in the car waiting for the torrential rain to pass over before heading out. At this point, maybe others less brave would've decided to call it a day and reschedule. But not these guys! Once it passed we packed up our things and headed out. The thing about cold days is that it means you have to cuddle for your life, which results in some beautifully moody, emotive and downright adorable pics. During the rain spells we hid out in caves that North End is so generous in providing which resulted in some even more spectacular and (thanks to Simone's Epic Style) Fashionable as heck pics.

In true Amy Kate Photoshoot Weather Luck, the sun decided to come out and grace us with its presence - At this point Im starting to wonder if I should put "Can control the Weather" in my about me, because honestly, its just getting ridiculous how lucky I am getting with this weather stuff. *results may vary*

More than all that, these two where just so wonderful to hang out with and I cannot WAIT to be part of their wedding day next April!
